Rh Dining Room

Well. After a year of looking we pulled the trigger. Or I should say we pulled out the wallet.  When we bought the house we converted the dining room into the office and the formal living room into the dining room. We wanted a house that worked for us and one, that though it was large, every space would be used regularly. One of our dreams with a bigger house was to really have a space for dinner parties. In our smaller last house we opened up the space to people all the time but it felt so cramped whenever we wanted to host large gatherings. For years I've loved Restoration Hardware's trestle style tables… but you know, the price is prohibitive. I was looking at table that started at $2300 and I was having a hard time justifying that when I knew we'd need 10-12 chairs on top of that.

So I began searching Craigslist and the Restoration Hardware Outlet for the few styles of tables I wanted. It took us a year because we knew we wanted it to fit at least twelve, have a light finish and look and feel substantial without looking like something out of a palace or dark monastery. Oh, and we didn't want to spend over $1500. Not too hard to accomplish.

I got an email last weekend that everything at the RH outlet was an additional 25% off. We stopped in on our way to another store and found THE TABLE. It was their St. James Extending Dining Room Table. But it had a hold on it for about another half an hour by someone else. Isn't that always how it goes? We put a second hold on it in case they backed out, inspected it and signed a waiver that we were okay with it so we could pay over the phone if the other people didn't take it. They didn't. Cue the angels singing. After a year of searching we had a dining room table. We had it delivered and set up for a fairly reasonable rate, and we still came in $100 under our cap. Phew. Thank goodness I didn't have to help AJ get this beast out of the truck.

I am so glad we waited to really get what we wanted… even though it meant waiting over a year. Our chairs will be delivered next Thursday (oh, wait, I didn't mention we got chairs? :)). We haven't seen them next to each other but I think it'll be great. Fingers crossed! I am already planning out a gorgeous table to share with you for Christmas! Here's a little sneak peek of what I'll be using from Balsam Hill… they rival the gorgeous quality of the Restoration Hardware ornaments I've collected since my bachelorette days.
